Many of the TaskJuggler reporting features require exact knowledge of when a resource was allocated to a task. The syntax that you suggest just does not provide this level of detail and would break the scheduling algorithms.

As a workaround for lazy project managers we have provided the 'completed' attribute which can be used to report status. But these values are just passed through and cannot be used for features like the projection mode, cost accounting and load charts.

The user manual chapter 'Tracking the project' describes how to generate booking files without much pain. But this is the level of detail you have to provide to do meaningful project tracking with TaskJuggler.
