If only a begin-date were specified, the possibility to book overtime is not easily available, since the normal working-hours (or shift) are filled-in for the resource. This can be forced (implicitly, but possible) using the end-date (allowing for 24 hours work per day using indeed the implicit "sloppy 2").
But I agree with you, the second date should be optional. I therefore advocate the following syntax:
booking start-time ( stop-time | duration [ stop-time ] ) task-id
Do you see any problem with this?
