There is no BNF or similar. Since the parser is hand-rolled, the code is the only complete reference. But the reference manual is generated from an XML file (PropertyReference.xml) that contains the macro structure of the code. The micro structure (of lexer elements) are documented in the manual. But this is more a human readable form than a 100% complete machine readable form.
In case something is unclear, please let us know and we try to fix the documentation. Or even send a patch for the documentation if you can.
