I notice in the 2.2.0 Changelog:
"The default separator for CSV files is now a semicolon since this is what OpenOffice.org uses by default. But this can be changed if needed."
Actually whether Openoffice uses comma or semicolon as the default separator in CSVs is a locale thing (I think it's related to what symbol is used as the decimal separator). Openoffice for me uses comma in CSVs by default (English locale), for German users it'll use semi-colon. This is the same behaviour as Microsoft Office, for what that's worth.
I'm not sure how OpenOffice decides what to use but perhaps it may be worth looking into.
