Subject: [taskjuggler] ./configure with RH8.0 and TaskJuggler 1.4.2

Installing from source on RedHat 8.0, I obtained and downloaded the various
Perl modules recommended.
I started to install devel RPMs required.

  qt - as mentioned
X - needed by qt (reasonable enough)

I now get a complaint that the ./configure cannot find my kde libraries (I
haven't specified --with-kde... and even try --with-kde...=no)

Failing to disable kde requirements (playing with configure.in.in didn't seem
to help) I decided to install kde devel RPMs

  kdebase - guessed this
  kdelibs - guessed this too
  pcre - needed by kdelibs

I now get complaints about a program "mcopidl" which turns out to be part of
the arts devel RPM (a sound server ???).

Can now reach the "make" stage. This runs configure again at some point and
then eventually fails. At this point I'm afraid I cut my losses and broke
open an rpm of mrproject (which doesn't handle resources like I need but will
let me produce a gantt chart).

Obviously, the project will get its majority of testing on Suse, and if I was
running it I'd not have needed to compile from source, just grabbed the RPM.
It might also be that I've broken my setup and there are dozens of happy
RedHat users out there who install in 5 mins.

However, failing that, can I suggest a stronger warning on the download page?
I'm quite happy building most command-line tools from source, but try to
avoid doing so for graphical apps precisely because of the number of
libraries that end up being required. "Qt" doesn't really cover the
requirements and people behind a modem will need to know that.

Best of luck with what appears an interesting project. If I get time, I'll try
again and provide a more detailed error report, but felt that this might be
better than nothing.

Thanks for your time
