yes, this has been fixed already, but not yet officially released. If you use
the CVS snapshots, you can set efficiency to 0 and your equipment is no
longer doing human work.

I've been thinking about this for a while already, but I haven't found a
generalization that pleased me. But I've stopped working on this for the time
being as I focused my time on the IDE/GUI recently. I will definitely come
back to this issue again. But setting efficiency to 0 is a good solution for
the moment.
