Betreff: [sles-beta] [ANNOUNCE] SLES 11 SP3 Beta1 available

Dear Beta Tester,

we are happy to announce

        SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP3 Beta1

ISO images are now available for download now. Please go to
http://www.novell.com/beta and select "View my beta page".
Here you should see all Beta's you are part of.

We offer 2 DVD ISOs: DVD1 contains the binaries, the second
DVD the sources.

Please verify the md5sum of the ISO using the MD5SUMS file, which can
be found in the same directory on the download servers.

WARNING: There are UEFI firmwares out, which are buggy and using
         UEFI on these machines can make your machine completly unuseable.
         This is nothing we can fix or workaround with our product,
         you need a firmware update for these machines.

Known issues:
- FF17: Homepage is not set
- some old ATI cards have issues with radeon (KMS), especially on "RV
   630/Radeon HD 2600 (1002:9589)" cards.
   Workaround: Use kernel option "nomodeset" and radeonhd driver in xorg.conf.
- UEFI/Secure Boot
  - DVD images can be booted with Secure Boot mode enabled, but there
    is an issue preventing correctly loading installer later in the
    boot process (it might also affect UEFI system with Secure Boot
    disabled). To workaround this issue, we recommend to dump the
    ISO image on an USB stick (you must run
    "isohybrid --uefi <name_iso_image>" before dumping the ISO image
    on USB stick, otherwise USB Stick won't be recognized by UEFI
    firmware properly). Only DVD image can be dumped to USB Stick.
  - An inconsistency between YaST and elilo prevent proper installation
    of shim loader, needed to boot installed system in Secure Boot mode.
    To properly install a system on a Secure Boot system, for Beta1, we
    recommend the following setup:
    * disable Secure Boot, install the system (make sure to boot with
      UEFI enabled and not legacy/BIOS mode)
    * on installed system, in YaST / Boot Loader / Boot Loader Installation.
      Make sure "ELILO" is selected as Bootloader and in
      "Boot Loader Options", check "Support Secure Boot"
    * exit Yast
    * as root run "zypper in shim grub2-x86_64-efi"
    * edit "/etc/elilo.conf" and replace "secure-boot" line with
      "secure-boot = on"
    * run elilo
    * run elilo --refresh-EBM
    * reboot your system and enable "Secure Boot" in UEFI firmware
    * your system should now boot in Secure Boot mode, when selecting
      "SB SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP3" in EFI Boot Menu.

Thanks in advance for all your testing

	Your SUSE Linux Enterprise Team
