Message-ID: <20130701191455.GD5038@suse.de> Dear participants, with the final release of SP3 today we have finished the SLE 11 SP3 development. On behalf of the SUSE engineering team I would like to say THANK YOU! for all the time you have invested in testing the beta versions and helping us improving SP3. I hope you enjoyed the beta test, we certainly received a lot of valuable feedback. There are some feature requests and bugs which are still being worked on - these are planned to be released at a later point in time. This mailinglist is going to be closed next week, and I am planning to invite you to the next beta test. Hope to see you again! This means also, that if you have a license for the product (SLED, SLES or HA, whatever you tested), you will receive updates for them once you have registered the installation. If you got a license for SP2 or older SPs, they are working with SP3, too (if they are not expired, of course). Please note that support for anything prior to the GM image (means a Beta-, RC- or GMC1- image) is not possible. Updates from a privious Beta-image to the final GM-image are possible, but I recommend to avoid it or at least have a look at the messages displayed during update, as this is neither supported nor guranteed to work. Hope this clarifies your question, Stefan > On Jul 1, 2013 2:15 PM, "Uwe Drechsel" wrote: > > > Dear participants, > > > > with the final release of SP3 today we have finished the SLE 11 SP3 > > development. It looks like you are mixing different things here. I'm pretty sure that your problem has nothing to do with the higher/lower kernel version number. Even if SP3 has the same kernel version number then SP2, this will not allow you to use the -extra kernel modules from the Extras channel for SP2 with SP3. The SP2 and SP3 kernels are different and incompatible, thus not compareable. I beg to differ. The extra channel is always available and contains packages for the major release, alas it contains packages for SP2 and will in future also contain packages for SP3. It is not split per SP level. We deliver unsupported packages via that channel, especially as outlined by G?nter the kernel-$flavor-extra package (and some others as openmotif, yum and the ext4-writeable KMP for SP2). The problem is that when a user installed kernel-$flavor-extra on SP2, an upgrade to SP3 will not work correctly as we have not filled the matching SP3 packages into that channel yet. -Daniel -- Daniel Rahn (????????), Senior Tech.
