Now that Mesa has fixed software rendering for blits to the front buffer, we can use this functionality without workarounds. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- o Updated coreutils (security/bugfix/feature) - Add three patches from SLE11 that aren't upstream: coreutils-misc.patch (fixes for tests) coreutils-getaddrinfo.patch (fake success as there's no network in the build system) coreutils-ocfs2_reflinks.patch (support for reflinks on ocfs2) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- o Removed cpufrequtils (XXX) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- o Updated crash (security/bugfix/feature) - Implementation of 7.0.5 from upstream, including patch refresh Changelog: - Fix for the "runq -g" option for kernels that are configured with CONFIG_FAIR_GROUP_SCHED, but not CONFIG_CFS_BANDWIDTH. Without the patch, the command fails with the message "runq: invalid structure member offset: cfs_rq_throttled". (vinayakm.list at gmail.com) - Add support for Xen PVH guest types introduced in Xen 4.4. Without the patch, running against a Xen 4.4 hypervisor binary would fail during session initialization with the error message "crash: invalid structure member offset: domain_is_hvm". In addition, the PVH guest type is being registered internally as an HVM guest type, the debug "help -X ofs" command's display of the domain_domain_flags offset has been fixed to show it in decimal, and the setting of the internal dc->domain_flags has been fixed to contain all flags set, not just the first one found. (dslutz at verizon.com) - Fix for the "kmem -S" command on Linux 3.1 and later kernels that are configured with CONFIG_SLUB. Because the the page structure's inuse and objects fields used by SLUB were changed from discrete u16 types to bit-fields within an unsigned int, the display of per-node partial slab statistics are incorrect. Without the patch, the TOTAL and ALLOCATED values are incorrectly shown as equal values, and therefore the FREE value is always zero. (anderson at redhat.com) - Fix for the "kmem -S" command for kernels that are configured with CONFIG_SLUB. Eash per-cpu slab object dump may show incorrect ALLOCATED and FREE values; and as seen on Linux 3.5 and later kernels, the TOTAL value and the number of individual objects dumped may also be incorrect (too small). (anderson at redhat.com) - When executing the commands from an input file specified by the "-i " command line option, or when accepting input from a file as a set of commands or as a set of command arguments using the "<" redirection character, unconditionally cease the operation if CTRL-c is entered. Without the patch, depending upon the command that was running when the SIGINT was received, the operation may continue uninterruptibly until the file contents are consumed. (anderson at redhat.com) - Enhanced the "bt -F" option such that if "-F" is entered twice, and if the stack frame contents reference a slab cache object, both the slab cache name and the stack contents will be displayed within brackets. (anderson at redhat.com) - Enhanced the "rd -S" option such that if "-S" is entered twice, and if the memory contents reference a slab cache object, both the slab cache name and the memory contents will be displayed within brackets. (anderson at redhat.com) - Fix for the X86_64 "bt" command to prevent an unwarranted message indicating "WARNING: possibly bogus exception frame" generated from a blocked kernel thread that was in the process of exec'ing a user process via the call_usermodehelper() facility. (anderson at redhat.com) - Fix for the X86_64 "bt" command to more correctly determine the function frame that called into an interrupted function. Without the patch, the first frame just above an IRQ exception frame register dump may show an invalid/stale function. (anderson at redhat.com) - Fix for the X86_64 "bt" command if a page fault exception was generated by the invalid contents of the RIP register. Without the patch, the exception frame register dump is not displayed above the "page_fault" stack frame; and in a related issue, the "bt -e" option will not find and display the exception frame. (anderson at redhat.com) - When invoking a crash session with a compressed vmlinux file, make the same host-machine/vmlinux endian verification that is done with uncompressed vmlinx files. (anderson at redhat.com) - Reduce the number of CTRL-c entries required to unconditionally terminate any manually-entered command from three to one. (anderson at redhat.com) - Fix for the X86_64 "bt" command if an async page fault exception occurred in a KVM guest running a Linux 2.6.38 or later kernel. Without the patch, the exception frame register dump is not displayed above the "async_page_fault" stack frame. (anderson at redhat.com) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- o Updated createrepo (security/bugfix/feature) - fix last fix modified patch: createrepo-0.9.9-sort-packages-before-writing-repodata.patch - fix bnc#841280 new patch: createrepo-0.10.3-fix_MetaDataGenerator.patch modified patch: createrepo-0.9.9-sort-packages-before-writing-repodata.patch - allow 'sha' checksum type in modifyrepo new patch: createrepo-0.10.3-modifyrepo-sha.patch - make it build on sles11 (fix from adrian) - update to version 0.10.3 dropped patches: * createrepo-0.9.8-workaround-umask-reset.patch * createrepo-0.9.9-add-lzma-option-to-generate-primary.xml.lzma.patch * createrepo-0.9.9-clean_tmp_files.patch * createrepo-0.9.9-generate-gzip-headers.patch * createrepo-0.9.9-pass_checksum_to_workers.patch * createrepo-0.9.9-use_integer_timestamps.patch * createrepo-0.9.9-worker-clog_limit.patch new patch: * createrepo-0.9.9-by_default_no_database.patch - fix filename of bash completion script ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- o Added cups-filters (feature) ## WARNING - the following diff is a head -20 proposal * Thu Jan 30 2014 jsmeix at suse.de - Moved /usr/lib/libcupsfilters.so /usr/lib/libcupsfilters.so /usr/lib/pkgconfig/libcupsfilters.pc /usr/include/fontembed/* /usr/lib/pkgconfig/libfontembed.pc /usr/include/cupsfilters/* to the cups-filters-devel sub-package to fix rpmlint "devel-file-in-non-devel-package" errors. * Fri Jan 10 2014 jsmeix at suse.de - Split /usr/share/cups/ppdc/escp.h and /usr/share/cups/ppdc/pcl.h into a cups-filters-devel sub-package and let cups-filters-devel conflict with cups-devel < 1.6. because up to CUPS 1.5.4 those files are provided by the cups-devel package (see the next entry below). * Thu Jan 09 2014 jsmeix at suse.de - Conflict with CUPS < 1.6 because up to CUPS 1.5.4 the following files are provided by the cups binary RPM package ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- o Updated cups (security/bugfix/feature) - str4351.patch from CUPS upstream fixes https://www.cups.org/str.php?L4351 "STR #4351 cups-lpd hugh jobs (>2G) fail" (bnc#864782). - Version upgrade to 1.7.1 (fate#314630): CUPS >= 1.6 has major incompatible changes compared to CUPS up to version 1.5.4 in particular when printing via network: * The IPP protocol default version increased form 1.1 to 2.0. Older IPP servers like CUPS 1.3.x (e.g. in SLE11) reject IPP 2.0 requests with "Bad Request" (STR #4231). By adding '/version=1.1' to ServerName in client.conf (e.g. ServerName older.server.example.com/version=1.1) or the CUPS_SERVER environment variable value or by adding it to the server name value of the '-h' opion (e.g. lpstat -h older.server.example.com/version=1.1 -p) the older IPP protocol version for older servers must be explicitly specified. * CUPS Browsing is dropped in CUPS but the new package cups-filters provides the cups-browsed that provides basic CUPS Browsing and Polling functionality. The native protocol in CUPS for automatic client discovery of printers is now DNS-SD. * Some printing filters and backends are dropped in CUPS but the new package cups-filters provides them so that cups-filters is usually needed (recommended by RPM) but cups-filters is not strictly required. * The cupsd configuration directives are split into two files cupsd.conf (can also be modified via HTTP PUT e.g. via cupsctl) and cups-files.conf (can only be modified manually by root) to have better default protection against misuse of privileges by normal users who have been specifically allowed by root to do cupsd configuration changes (STR #4223 CVE-2012-5519 bnc#789566). See the entries below for more information. For details see the openSUSE Bugzilla bnc#735404 issue. CUPS 1.7.1 improves network and USB printing, fixes some scheduler issues, and addresses a minor security issue in the lppasswd program. Changes since 1.7.0 include (excerpt): * Security: the lppasswd program incorrectly used settings from ~/.cups/client.conf (STR #4319) * ATTR messages could cause string pool memory corruption in the scheduler () * Printing to a raw queue could result in corrupt output due to opportunistic compression () * Japanese PPDs using with the Shift-JIS encoding did not work () * The libusb-based USB backend incorrectly used write timeouts () * The IPP backend did not wait for a busy printer to become available before attempting to print () * Using "@IF(name)" in an Allow or Deny rule did not work (STR #4328) * The D-BUS notifier did not remove its lockfile (STR #4314) * CUPS incorrectly used the USER environment variable when the name did not match the user ID (STR #4327) For details see the CHANGES.txt file. - cups-1.7-additional_policies.patch adds the 'allowallforanybody' policy to cupsd.conf (fate#303515) and replaces cups-1.6.2-adapt_cupsd.conf_defaults_for_SUSE.patch - Clean up of systemd unit files (bnc#857372): Make it working again as simple and secure as it worked all the time in the past by providing only one single systemd unit file cups.service. In particular currently YaST cannot manage services with additional other systemd unit files. Furthermore systemd socket activation is currently insecure in case of IPv6 (CVE-2012-6094 bnc#795624). SysVinit support cannot be removed because CUPS 1.7.1 still builds and can be used even for SLE11. to 'root' only (related to STR #4223 CVE-2012-5519 bnc#789566). In this context a general security advice: - Version upgrade to 1.7.0 CUPS >= 1.6 has major incompatible changes compared to CUPS 1.5. See the entries below for more information. For details see the openSUSE Bugzilla bnc#735404 issue. Changes since 1.7rc1 include (excerpt): * The lpadmin command did not send the PPD name from the "-m" option (). * The scheduler did not respond using the hostname specified by the client (). * Fixed a couple memory leaks in ippfind that were reported by Clang. * Fixed a compile issue on 64-bit Linux with Clang - need to use the -pie option instead of -Wl,-pie now (). * The scheduler incorrectly did not pass a FINAL_CONTENT_TYPE environment variable to the filters or backend (). For details see the CHANGES.txt file. - Version upgrade to 1.7rc1 only for testing purpose. CUPS >= 1.6 has major incompatible changes compared to CUPS 1.5. After a version upgrade to CUPS >= 1.6 printing in the network would no longer work as it did up to CUPS 1.5. For details regarding incompatible changes in CUPS >= 1.6 see https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=735404 and follow the links therein. The 1.7 series is primarily a "polish" release with improved support for paid, PIN, and release printing, expanded support for IPP Everywhere, automatic support for data compression, and improved CUPS APIs. CUPS 1.7rc1 is the first release candidate for CUPS 1.7.0 and includes the fixes from CUPS 1.6.3, adds a new ippfind utility, fixes some issues in the ipptool utility, and fixes some general printing bugs. For details what is new in CUPS 1.7 see the CHANGES.txt file. Excerpt: * Printer xxx-default values were not reported by Get-Printer-Attributes or lpoptions () * Added a new ippfind tool for finding IPP printers and other Bonjour services () - Version upgrade to 1.6.3 CUPS 1.6.3 fixes some compatibility issues with servers running CUPS 1.3.12 or older, fixes some general printing bugs, and fixes some minor security issues. For details what is new in CUPS 1.6 see the CHANGES-1.6.txt file. Excerpt: * The lp, lpq, lpr, and lpstat now display an error message advising the use of the /version=1.1 ServerName option () * Added documentation about the /version=1.1 option to ServerName in client.conf () * The lp, lpq, lpr, and lpstat commands incorrectly ignored the default printer set in the lpoptions file () * Printing using "ipps" URIs was not encrypted. - Version upgrade to 1.6.2. CUPS 1.6 has major incompatible changes compared to CUPS 1.5. For details regarding incompatible changes in CUPS 1.6 see https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=735404 and follow the links therein. For details what is new in CUPS 1.6 see the CHANGES.txt file. Excerpt: * Security: All file, directory, user, and group settings are now stored in a separate cups-files.conf configuration file that cannot be set through the CUPS web interface or APIs (STR #4223). * The IPP backend could crash if the printer disconnects early (STR #4284). * cupsGetPPD did not work with statically-configured CUPS shared queues (STR #4178). * Bad IPP responses could crash ipptool (STR #4262). * Updated USB quirk rules for various printers (STR #4217, STR #4263, STR #4286). * Added USB blacklisting for printers that require a custom backend (STR #4218). * The CUPS library did not always detect a timed out connection to the server which could cause temporary loss of printing from applications (STR #4187). * The IPP backend now stops queues when the server configuration prevents successful job submission (STR #4125). * CUPS 1.6 clients using the ServerName directive in client.conf did not work with CUPS 1.3.x or older servers (STR #4231, STR #4291). * The scheduler could crash when using Avahi (STR #4183, STR #4192, STR #4200, STR #4213). * The IPP backend could get stuck in an endless loop on certain network errors (STR #4194). * The scheduler no longer allows job-name values that are not valid network Unicode strings (STR #4072). * The network backends now support disabling of SNMP supply level queries via the "snmp" URI option (STR #4106). * The IPP backend did not specify the compression used (STR #4181). * The scheduler did not recognize dnssd: or ipps: URIs as Bonjour shared queues (STR #4158). * Applications could not get the PPD file for statically-configured Bonjour-shared print queues (STR #4159). * Fixed a USB backend compatibility issue on systems using libusb (STR #4155, STR #4191). * Some Bonjour features were not available on systems with Avahi (STR #4156). - cups-1.6.1-revertSTR3929_to_default_IPP_1.1_again.patch is obsolete because it is fixed upstream (STR #4231, STR #4291). - cups-1.6.2-adapt_cupsd.conf_defaults_for_SUSE.patch replaces cups-1.6.1-adapt_cupsd.conf_defaults_for_SUSE.patch - Adapted cups-client.conf template file for CUPS 1.6. - cups-1.6.1-adapt_cupsd.conf_defaults_for_SUSE.patch adapts the defaults in cupsd.conf for SUSE. It replaces cups-1.3.6-access_conf.patch that added 'Allow 127.0.0.2' to cupsd.conf to allow access for the loopback IP address 127.0.0.2 which is set for the hostname by SUSE in /etc/hosts at least up to SLE10 products. It also replaces cups-1.5-additional_policies.patch that added the 'allowallforanybody' policy to cupsd.conf see https://fate.novell.com/303515 Furthermore it fixes some issues with the CUPS upstream defaults i.e. removal of no longer supported keywords BrowseOrder BrowseAllow DefaultAuthType (otherwise cupsd prints error messages of the form "Unknown directive BrowseOrder on line 22"). - cups-1.6.1-revertSTR3929_to_default_IPP_1.1_again.patch reverts the incompatible change in CUPS 1.6 that makes IPP version 2.0 default (see https://www.cups.org/str.php?L3929) back to using IPP version 1.1 by default. Otherwise CUPS 1.6 on clients cannot talk to older CUPS servers in particular not to CUPS 1.3.9 on SLE11. E.g. on a CUPS 1.6 client "lpstat -h sle11.cups.server -p" would fail on the client with "lpstat: Bad Request" and the CUPS 1.3.9 server logs in /var/log/cups/error_log the lines "E ... cupsdReadClient: ... IPP Read Error!" and "D ... cupsdSendError: ... code=400 (Bad Request)". - Version upgrade to 1.6.1. CUPS 1.6 has major incompatible changes compared to CUPS 1.5. After a version upgrade to CUPS 1.6 printing in the network would no longer work as it did up to CUPS 1.5. For an overview about what is new in CUPS 1.6 see http://www.cups.org/documentation.php/doc-1.6/whatsnew.html For details regarding incompatible changes in CUPS 1.6 see https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=735404 and follow the links therein. For details what is new in CUPS 1.6 see the CHANGES.txt file. (bnc#865913) Anton Blanchard (12): Add IEEE1275_ADDR helper Fix some more warnings when casting. Add powerpc64 types Fix warnings when building powerpc linux loader 64bit Fix powerpc setjmp/longjmp 64bit issues Add powerpc64 ieee1275 trampoline Add 64bit support to powerpc startup code Add grub_dl_find_section_addr Add ppc64 relocations ppc64 doesn't need libgcc routines Use FUNC_START/FUNC_END for powerpc function definitions powerpc64 is not necessarily BigEndian anymore! :) Ram Pai (11): Add a new architecture to the build process Build grub as O1 until we add savegpr and restgpr routines powerpc64 LE's linker knows how to handle the undefined symbol .TOC. in grub modules. So just ignore that symbol during build. grub-install can now recognize and install a LE grub boot loader set the ABI version to 0x02 in the e_flag of the PPC64LE ELF image. GRUB_ELF_R_PPC_* processing is applicable only for 32 bit bootloader. .TOC. symbol is special in ppc64le . It maps to the address of the .toc section. the .toc section in powerpc64le modules are sometimes not aligned on a four byte boundary. This fails the module linker especially when processing R_PPC64_TOC16_LO_DS, since the addresses are expected to be aligned on 4byte boundary. all parameter to firmware calls should to be BigEndian and the results should be CPU endian. grub segfaults if initrd is specified before specifying the kernel. The problem is the initrd module sees that kernel is not specified and takes the fail path. In the fail path it checks if anything has be malloc'ed. Unfortunately the variable that it looks to check for is a uninitialized stack variable. The stack variable can incorrectly indicate something is malloced, which leads the module to free some unallocated memory. This patch fixes the problem by initializing the stack variable. Power7 cannot handle VSX instructions correctly. It segfaults. This patch is applicable only for power7 systems. Oops, ppc64le still needs LEDS_CLASS built-in for the moment. I think we can modularize it later after the configs have been cleaned up to drop support for old hardware, but I was too quick. - commit e3a3704 - Update config files: modularize BLK_DEV_MD, disable MD_AUTODETECT Michal Marek says: I think that the reason why BLK_DEV_MD is built in is config MD_AUTODETECT bool "Autodetect RAID arrays during kernel boot" depends on BLK_DEV_MD=y but since we compile the raid presonalities as modules, this cannot work. Also, we use the initrd even in the trivial cases, so why bother about root-on-md. Neil Brown adds: I certainly don't want customers using MD_AUTODETECT so I am quite happy for md to become a module and MD_AUTODETECT to be disabled. And Lars Marowsky-Bree adds: It seems conceivable that the cluster RAID code might possibly be a KMP which overrides basic md for a while. So making it a module is a good idea. - commit bdef217 - Update config files: CONFIG_ISO9660_FS=m There is no good reason why isofs would be built into the kernel. Need to do an sfence after both the WC and regular PIDX DB write. Otherwise the host might reorder things and cause work request corruption (seen with NFSRDMA). * Call rmb() after reading valid gen bit. Some HW platforms can reorder read operations, so we must rmb() after we see a valid gen bit in a CQE but before we read any other fields from the CQE. * Refresh t4 fw/hw reg files. * Add common device id table and chip types. This will make it easier to merge in new devices. * iw_cxgb4/libcxgb4: swsq "signaled" state needs to mind sq_sig_all. When a qp is created, the ULP can request that all sq wrs be signaled. The swsqe entries need to take this into account when marking the entry as signaled. This bug will cause read request CQEs to be silently discarded, and can cause flush problems because the swsqe entry will be mismarked for qps created with sq_sig_all set in the qp init attributes. * never consume a pending wr in sq flush. There is a race when moving a QP from RTS->CLOSING where a SQ work request could be posted after the FW receives the RDMA_RI/FINI WR. The SQ work request will never get processed, and should be completed with FLUSHED status. Function c4iw_flush_sq(), however was dropping the oldest SQ work request when in CLOSING or IDLE states, instead of completing the pending work request. If that oldest pending work request was actually complete and has a CQE in the CQ, then when that CQE is proceessed in poll_cq, we'll BUG_ON() due to the inconsistent SQ/CQ state. This is a very small timing hole and has only been hit once so far. c4iw_flush_sq() MUST always flush all non-completed WRs with FLUSHED status regardless of the QP state. * unmap status page when freeing the context. * DB Drop Avoidance, Version 2. Add support for the device status page mapped per device that is used to enable/disable user db usage. * Fix DEBUG code in c4iw_flush_hw_cq(). * T4 onchip workaround: do the 16 4B MA writes just before DB ring. - Adapt the patches to the source changes ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- o Updated libevdev (security/bugfix/feature) - Update to 1.0, for more details, please see: http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/input-tools/2014-January/000763.html and http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/input-tools/2014-February/000766.html - SO version bumped to 2 - Explicitly remove la files, instead of excluding them ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- o Updated libffi48 (security/bugfix/feature) - Fix typo in libgcj_bc suffix computation. - Update to gcc-4_8-branch head (r208119). * Obsoletes gcc48-pr59860.diff - Add gcc48-ibm-power8-fixes2.diff, more Power8 fixes from IBM, drop gcc48-ibm-power8-pr60137.diff contained therein. - Drop sap303956-uchar.diff to not shadow full uchar.h provided by glibc since version 2.16. - Enable profiledbootstrap for x86_64, s390x and ppc64le. For example, with the string "char-pts" it is now possible to whitelist all current and future pseudo-TTYs at once. + sd-event learned a new "post" event source. Event sources of this type are triggered by the dispatching of any event source of a type that is not "post". This is useful for implementing clean-up and check event sources that are triggered by other work being done in the program. + The compatibility libraries for libsystemd-journal.so, libsystem-id128.so, libsystemd-login.so and libsystemd-daemon.so do not make use of IFUNC anymore. - Dropped systemd patches as those are fixed upstream: * 0001-nspawn-fix-detection-of-missing-proc-self-loginuid.patch - Dropped patches as those do not work anymore * 1006-udev-always-rename-network.patch - Renamed systemd patches as seen from git log: * 0001-cdrom_id-use-the-old-MMC-fallback.patch become 0002-cdrom_id-use-the-old-MMC-fallback.patch * 0001-journalctl-refuse-extra-arguments-with-verify-and-si.patch become 0003-journalctl-refuse-extra-arguments-with-verify-and-si.patch * 0001-logs-show-fix-corrupt-output-with-empty-messages.patch become 0004-logs-show-fix-corrupt-output-with-empty-messages.patch - Add several upstream bugfix patches which are missed: * 0001-build-sys-Add-setns-functions-if-not-in-the-C-librar.patch * 0001-build-sys-Fix-compilation-of-nspawn-when-seccomp-is-.patch * 0001-sd-event-Fix-systemd-crash-when-using-timer-units.patch * 0001-selinux-Don-t-attempt-to-load-policy-in-initramfs-if.patch * 0001-shared-architecture.h-fix-preprocessor-directives.patch * 0005-mount-don-t-fire-PropertiesChanged-signals-for-mount.patch * 0006-mount-don-t-send-out-PropertiesChanged-message-if-ac.patch * 0007-Use-var-run-dbus-system_bus_socket-for-the-D-Bus-soc.patch * 0008-README-document-that-var-run-must-be-a-symlink-run.patch * 0009-Revert-back-to-var-run-at-a-couple-of-problems.patch * 0010-Replace-var-run-with-run-in-remaining-places.patch * 0011-fix-typo-in-iDRAC-network-interface-name-irdac-idrac.patch * 0012-login-Allow-calling-org.freedesktop.login1.Seat.Swit.patch * 0013-login-set-pos-slot-to-fallback-on-pos-eviction.patch * 0014-login-fix-pos-array-allocation.patch - Modified patches to make is build * 0001-add-network-device-after-NFS-mount-units.patch - Reenable libseccomp for the architecture for which libseccomp exists - always install compat pkgconfig files, regardless if compat libs is enabled or not - disable use of libseccomp for sle12, library has not been ported to most architectures - do not use binutils-gold on s390/s390x, does not exist there - fix exclude statements for bootstrap case - Add upstream patches + 0001-cdrom_id-use-the-old-MMC-fallback.patch + 0001-logs-show-fix-corrupt-output-with-empty-messages.patch + 0001-journalctl-refuse-extra-arguments-with-verify-and-si.patch - Add patch 0001-systemd-empty-sigmask-on-reexec.patch which corrects sigmaks for reexec in initrd (bnc#864904) - Add patch 0001-nspawn-fix-detection-of-missing-proc-self-loginuid.patch to avoid error on not existing file /proc/self/loginuid - Make patch 0001-make-209-working-on-older-dist.patch more smart that is make configure script les restrictive - Make patch apply-ACL-for-nvidia-device-nodes.patch apply to v209 - Update to Release v209 on the base of the work of Stefan Br?ns from declined submit request 223602: + A new tool "systemd-socket-proxyd" has been added + Add a new tool to save/restore rfkill state on shutdown/boot. + Save/restore state of keyboard backlights in addition to display backlights on shutdown/boot. + udev learned a new SECLABEL{} construct to label device nodes with a specific security label when they appear. For now, only SECLABEL{selinux} is supported, but the syntax is prepared for additional security frameworks. + When the User= switch is used in a unit file, also initialize $SHELL= based on the user database entry. + systemd no longer depends on libdbus. All communication is now done with sd-bus, systemd's low-level bus library implementation. + sd-bus: add a light-weight vtable implementation that allows defining objects on the bus with a simple static const vtable array of its methods, signals and properties. + systemd will not generate or install static dbus introspection data anymore to /usr/share/dbus-1/interfaces, as the precise format of these files is unclear, and nothing makes use of it. + A proxy daemon is now provided to proxy clients connecting via classic D-Bus AF_UNIX sockets to kdbus, to provide full compatibility with classic D-Bus. + A bus driver implementation has been added that supports the classic D-Bus bus driver calls on kdbus, also for compatibility purposes. + A new API "sd-event.h" has been added that implements a minimal event loop API built around epoll. + A new API "sd-rntl.h" has been added that provides an API around the route netlink interface of the kernel, similar in style to "sd-bus.h". + A new API "sd-dhcp-client.h" has been added that provides a small DHCPv4 client-side implementation. This is used by "systemd-networkd". + There is a new kernel command line option "systemd.restore_state=0|1". When set to "0", none of the systemd tools will restore saved runtime state to hardware devices. More specifically, the rfkill and backlight states are not restored. + The FsckPassNo= compatibility option in mount/service units has been removed. The fstab generator will now add the necessary dependencies automatically, and does not require PID1's support for that anymore. + journalctl gained a new switch, --list-boots, that lists recent boots with their times and boot IDs. + The various tools like systemctl, loginctl, timedatectl, busctl, systemd-run, ... have gained a new switch "-M" to connect to a specific, local OS container (as direct connection, without requiring SSH). + systemd-run and systemd-analyze also gained support for "-H" to connect to remote hosts via SSH. This is particularly useful for systemd-run because it enables queuing of jobs onto remote systems. + machinectl gained a new command "login" to open a getty login in any local container. This works with any container that is registered with machined (such as those created by libvirt-lxc or nspawn), and which runs systemd inside. + machinectl gained a new "reboot" command that may be used to trigger a reboot on a specific container that is registered with machined. This works on any container that runs an init system of some kind. + systemctl gained a new "list-timers" command to print a nice listing of installed timer units with the times they elapse next. + Alternative reboot() parameters may now be specified on the "systemctl reboot" command line and are passed to the reboot() system call. + systemctl gained a new --job-mode= switch to configure the mode to queue a job with. This is a more generic version of - -fail, --irreversible, and --ignore-dependencies, which are still available but not advertised anymore. + /etc/systemd/system.conf gained new settings to configure various default timeouts of units, as well as the default start limit interval and burst. These may still be overridden within each Unit. + PID1 will now export on the bus profile data of the security policy upload process (such as the SELinux policy upload to the kernel). + journald: when forwarding logs to the console, include timestamps (following the setting in /sys/module/printk/parameters/time). + OnCalendar= in timer units now understands the special strings "yearly" and "annually". (Both are equivalent) + The accuracy of timer units is now configurable with the new AccuracySec= setting. It defaults to 1min. + A new dependency type JoinsNamespaceOf= has been added that allows running two services within the same /tmp and network namespace, if PrivateNetwork= or PrivateTmp= are used. + A new command "cat" has been added to systemctl. It outputs the original unit file of a unit, and concatenates the contents of additional "drop-in" unit file snippets, so that the full configuration is shown. + systemctl now supports globbing on the various "list-xyz" commands, like "list-units" or "list-sockets", as well as on those commands which take multiple unit names. + journalctl's --unit= switch gained support for globbing. + All systemd daemons now make use of the watchdog logic so that systemd automatically notices when they hang. + If the $container_ttys environment variable is set, getty-generator will automatically spawn a getty for each listed tty. This is useful for container managers to request login gettys to be spawned on as many ttys as needed. + %h, %s, %U specifier support is not available anymore when used in unit files for PID 1. This is because NSS calls are not safe from PID 1. They stay available for --user instances of systemd, and as special case for the root user. + loginctl gained a new "--no-legend" switch to turn off output of the legend text. + The "sd-login.h" API gained three new calls: sd_session_is_remote(), sd_session_get_remote_user(), sd_session_get_remote_host() to query information about remote sessions. + The udev hardware database now also carries vendor/product information of SDIO devices. + The "sd-daemon.h" API gained a new sd_watchdog_enabled() to determine whether watchdog notifications are requested by the system manager. + Socket-activated per-connection services now include a short description of the connection parameters in the description. + tmpfiles gained a new "--boot" option. When this is not used, only lines where the command character is not suffixed with "!" are executed. When this option is specified, those options are executed too. + systemctl gained a new "import-environment" command which uploads the caller's environment (or parts thereof) into the service manager so that it is inherited by services started by the manager. This is useful to upload variables like $DISPLAY into the user service manager. + A new PrivateDevices= switch has been added to service units which allows running a service with a namespaced /dev directory that does not contain any device nodes for physical devices. More specifically, it only includes devices such as /dev/null, /dev/urandom, and /dev/zero which are API entry points. + logind has been extended to support behaviour like VT switching on seats that do not support a VT. This makes multi-session available on seats that are not the first seat (seat0), and on systems where kernel support for VTs has been disabled at compile-time. + If a process holds a delay lock for system sleep or shutdown and fails to release it in time, we will now log its identity. This makes it easier to identify processes that cause slow suspends or power-offs. + When parsing /etc/crypttab, support for a new key-slot= option as supported by Debian is added. It allows indicating which LUKS slot to use on disk, speeding up key loading. + The sd_journald_sendv() API call has been checked and officially declared to be async-signal-safe so that it may be invoked from signal handlers for logging purposes. + Boot-time status output is now enabled automatically after a short timeout if boot does not progress, in order to give the user an indication what she or he is waiting for. + The boot-time output has been improved to show how much time remains until jobs expire. + The KillMode= switch in service units gained a new possible value "mixed". If set, and the unit is shut down, then the initial SIGTERM signal is sent only to the main daemon process, while the following SIGKILL signal is sent to all remaining processes of the service. + logind will now also track a "Desktop" identifier for each session which encodes the desktop environment of it. This is useful for desktop environments that want to identify multiple running sessions of itself easily. + A new SELinuxContext= setting for service units has been added that allows setting a specific SELinux execution context for a service. + Most systemd client tools will now honour $SYSTEMD_LESS for settings of the "less" pager. + systemd's "seccomp" hook-up has been changed to make use of the libseccomp library instead of using its own implementation. This has benefits for portability among other things. - Dropped systemd patches as those are fixed upstream: * 0001-acpi-fptd-fix-memory-leak-in-acpi_get_boot_usec.patch * 0002-fix-lingering-references-to-var-lib-backlight-random.patch * 0003-acpi-make-sure-we-never-free-an-uninitialized-pointe.patch * 0004-systemctl-fix-name-mangling-for-sysv-units.patch * 0005-cryptsetup-fix-OOM-handling-when-parsing-mount-optio.patch * 0006-journald-add-missing-error-check.patch * 0007-bus-fix-potentially-uninitialized-memory-access.patch * 0008-dbus-fix-return-value-of-dispatch_rqueue.patch * 0009-modules-load-fix-error-handling.patch * 0010-efi-never-call-qsort-on-potentially-NULL-arrays.patch * 0011-strv-don-t-access-potentially-NULL-string-arrays.patch * 0012-mkdir-pass-a-proper-function-pointer-to-mkdir_safe_i.patch * 0014-tmpfiles.d-include-setgid-perms-for-run-log-journal.patch * 0001-systemd-order-remote-mounts-from-mountinfo-before-re.patch * 0001-gpt-auto-generator-exit-immediately-if-in-container.patch * 0001-manager-when-verifying-whether-clients-may-change-en.patch * 0001-logind-fix-bus-introspection-data-for-TakeControl.patch * 0001-mount-check-for-NULL-before-reading-pm-what.patch * 0001-shared-util-fix-off-by-one-error-in-tag_to_udev_node.patch * 0001-systemd-serialize-deserialize-forbid_restart-value.patch * 0001-core-unify-the-way-we-denote-serialization-attribute.patch * 0001-journald-fix-minor-memory-leak.patch * 0001-do-not-accept-garbage-from-acpi-firmware-performance.patch * 0001-journald-remove-rotated-file-from-hashmap-when-rotat.patch * 0001-login-fix-invalid-free-in-sd_session_get_vt.patch * 0001-login-make-sd_session_get_vt-actually-work.patch * 0001-Never-call-qsort-on-potentially-NULL-arrays.patch * 0001-dbus-common-avoid-leak-in-error-path.patch * 0001-drop-ins-check-return-value.patch * 0001-shared-util-Fix-glob_extend-argument.patch * 0001-Fix-bad-assert-in-show_pid_array.patch * 0001-analyze-set-white-background.patch * 0001-analyze-set-text-on-side-with-most-space.patch * analyze-fix-crash-in-command-line-parsing.patch * 0001-core-replace-OnFailureIsolate-setting-by-a-more-gene.patch * 0001-core-introduce-new-KillMode-mixed-which-sends-SIGTER.patch * 0002-service-allow-KillMode-mixed-in-conjunction-with-PAM.patch * 0003-core-make-sure-to-always-go-through-both-SIGTERM-and.patch * U_logind_revert_lazy_session_activation_on_non_vt_seats.patch * build-sys-make-multi-seat-x-optional.patch * 1017-skip-native-unit-handling-if-sysv-already-handled.patch * 0018-core-do-not-add-what-to-RequiresMountsFor-for-networ.patch * 0030-Fix-for-SIGSEGV-in-systemd-bootchart-on-short-living.patch * 0031-man-document-the-b-special-boot-option.patch * 0033-tmpfiles-log-unaccessible-FUSE-mount-points-only-as-.patch * 0034-systemd-python-fix-booted-and-add-two-functions-to-d.patch * 0035-activate-mention-E-in-the-help-text.patch * 0036-activate-fix-crash-when-s-is-passed.patch * 0037-tmpfiles-adjust-excludes-for-the-new-per-service-pri.patch * 0038-core-socket-fix-SO_REUSEPORT.patch * 0039-journal-when-appending-to-journal-file-allocate-larg.patch * 0040-journal-optimize-bisection-logic-a-bit-by-caching-th.patch * 0041-journal-fix-iteration-when-we-go-backwards-from-the-.patch * 0042-journal-allow-journal_file_copy_entry-to-work-on-non.patch * 0043-journal-simplify-pre-allocation-logic.patch * 0044-journald-mention-how-long-we-needed-to-flush-to-var-.patch * 0046-util.c-check-if-return-value-from-ttyname_r-is-0-ins.patch * 0047-docs-remove-unneeded-the-s-in-gudev-docs.patch * 0048-man-explicitly-say-when-multiple-units-can-be-specif.patch * 0049-systemd-treat-reload-failure-as-failure.patch - Note the MD5SUMS for the SLES12 Beta 2 download has not been updated and still lists the MD5 checksums of Beta 1 files. The SHA1SUMS file is correct and fortunately MD5 checksums are listed on the download page itself. Let me choose IPtables at this moment. We seem to have yet another change where ip_nat and similar are now named nf_nat etc. My IPtables start/stop script ran into more difficulty as it references fail2ban. Fail2ban declined to start and its server parts are installed in /usr/bin rather than normal /usr/local/bin. Could we put back the /usr/local usage? I avoid mixing vendor and self-complied material. I dug into fail2ban not starting. It seems to be related to the changes from Python 2.7 to 3.x. To get round that I used the latest source tarball of fail2ban and that worked. In the middle of this one sinks into the systemd material, with little hope of returning alive. IPtables? It never heard of it. Luckily my regular start/stop script (/etc/init.d/iptables) works with that change of ip_ to nf_ and referencing fail2ban in /usr/bin. On the GUI. I had both SLES and SLED screens open. For awhile SLES presented the plain screen and SLED the more elaborate one. As I worked on the systems the SLES system started behaving like SLED. I have no idea why, perhaps it is just me. That means my earlier comments on the SLED GUI apply to SLES as well. Clearly a lot remains to be done on the GUI. As commented, I see hope for the return of a usable GUI. For that I thank you. Networking. One regular Ethernet adapter, running SLES/D as an ESXi virtual. Beta 1 allowed one to remove the unwanted ensxxx adapter name and revert to ethN. Beta2 does not, and most of the YaST networking material is non-functional. Trying to change the name in systemd has met with total failure, and the failure is due to the byzantine design of systemd rather than the system manager person. Yes, we know you have to be industry compatible as well as be customer pleasing, so please could we have sysVinit back as a choice (a la OpenSUSE). To be candid, the systemd mess would normally drive me away, it still might, but I am waiting to see how it and my education turn out. Clarity (what is available), simple manipulation (start/stop/status etc) per service, use of many existing scripts are my primary concerns in keeping systems going long term. Thanks, Joe D. How did you create the AutoYaST file? I just tried (re)installing a SLES12 Beta2 VM using the autoinst.xml file from a manual install but during the auto-install process, after configuring bootloader, I'm prompted for Installation Settings with a screen offering the default values not those I configured during my manual install. On closer inspection of the auto-generated autoinst.xml file from the original manual install it looks like the "clone system for AutoYaST" process is broken since it's missing partitioning and software settings. I didn't see a reboot during the auto-install. In this menu there was an option 2nd stage. As I use autoyast for a long time now, 1st stage is chroot phase, with package installation Then kdump, grub gets written and the server will be booted onto the newly installed system Then there will be 2nd stage with configuration of LAN, users, services etc. Well my autoyast installation got stuck on 85% within the second stage within the blue yast 2 mask, saying in yast2: starting services (I could not find out yet if it was ntp or which service) When I changed using alt F2 to the next screen I could see a login screen, not the usual ongoing configuration of autoyast As you can see now, my autoyast process does not only install packages, but does also the entire system configuration. Other than installation &&& configuration does not make sense to me. I need to have one entirely set up system at once using autoyast. Short I will re-create an autoinst.xml on beta2 and see if my previous observation still does exist. Best regards Urs Frey????????????????????????????????????????????? As said in our monday call, our recommendation is btrfs for the OS (snapshot/rollback), and xfs for data. I know that Oracle supports xfs, and I am not aware that EMC?, Veritas or VMware would not support xfs either. Thus there are more choices than ext4 "only". The tools are integrated in SLES already, and thus there is no specific README, thus SUSE's recommendations apply. So long - MgE > ________________________________________ > From: Matthias G. Public available sources say that the recommended filesystem for RHEL 7 will become xfs. * The recommended filesystem for data on SLES is xfs for ~10 years by now. As is it known, Microsoft and SUSE are working on Interoperability aspects, and the SLES - HyperV interaction is one of the areas which is in focus here. Hope this helps. so logn - MgE P.S.: Re-adding the mailinglist to a private conversation is usually not recommended, but well, the topic indeed might be of broader interest. > From: Matthias G. When doing an SLES12 Beta2 installation and manually preparing the root filesystem with XFS, I get the following errors in the configuration/preparation step of the installation: "Internal error. Please report a bug report with logs. Details: undefined method 'first' for nil:NilClass" The Booting section also shows "ERROR: No proposal" instead of the expected information. It is possible to continue the installation, but then I end up with an unbootable system. If I enter the Booting configuration section and choose to install Grub2 into the MBR it still shows an error, but the install yields a bootable system. If you need any logs (or other information), please let me know which ones and I'll grab them for you. :-) Best regards, Jens ?rtenholm -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... As many of us have discovered, the names of lan adapters are whimsical and not what we want, and at this moment the GUI version of YaST is incomplete in the lan adapter area. The notes on systemd's role in this are amusingly bad news; impractical. There is a way with Beta 2 to regain eth0/1/etc. Use the text mode YaST, Network Devices section, go to the Hardware tab, see the upper left corner menu which is titled Udev Rules (that will be crystal clear to non-gurus...). Open that, see the partial systemd device name (such as ens32), erase it and type what you want. What happens? Magic. We get the device names we want. And a 70-persistent-net.rules file is created in /etc/udev/rules.d with the regular MAC address and name configuration lines which otherwise have become lost/discarded/rejected by the systemd material. Also, ifcfg-ethN files in /etc/sysconfig/network have correctly matching names. Another amusing sighting in this area. The first lan adapter is described as Ethermet Network Card, and the second as 8254EM Gigabit Ethernet Controller (Copper). Both are just regular ESXi v5.5 Ethernet devices. Points to those who can find where systemd creates its Ethernet adapter name patterns. I gave up looking. Joe D.
