Intentional, or to be added later? Message-ID: When booting any of the SLES 12 Betas (I'm working with beta 4 right now), the boot menu options are: Boot from Hard Disk Installation Upgrade Rescue System Check Installation Media Firmware Test Memory Test However, when booting SLES 11.x, they are as follows: Boot from Hard Disk Installation Repair Installed System Rescue System Check Installation Media Firmware Test Memory Test Will the "Repair Installed System" option be added to SLES 12 at some point? I've found the ability to get into a few yast modules from that option particularly useful in the past. Thanks. Is this intended to be the correct behavior? I remember, that the installer should provide the possibility to configure the network before installation. So this functionality is intended for a later Beta? - in the configuration screen of YaST installer, the button "Export Configuration" does not create a working autoyast file. The portion of the file which is exported seems to be one but incomplete. This will be fixed in a later Beta? This button replaced the keyboard shortcut menu for the different sections of the config screen. Will this menu "come back" or is it gone? - I want to get rid of cups on my installations, but GNOME's dependencies do not allow to remove cups. Is this correct behavior? - the Pattern View of YaST Software Module does not show up all of the packages available, so some packages are only visible if "Search" is used (e.g. postgres, openjdk) - there are some packages (e.g. postgres and openjdk) which are reported to be unsupported at installation. Will those packages also get updates for security or bugs? Autoyast has got some trouble, but didn't find any bug about "Exporting Configuration" issue. Could you please tell me the significant of that ? What does it mean exactly ? SLE12 will inherit some technologies from SLE11SP3, so we need to take care of the RN content and be sure important information won't be lost, so we have added some "CHECKIT:SLE11.3" in the RN. SLE12 RN are still under development, and these inputs will be removed from the final release. regards. -- Antoine Ginies Project Manager SUSE France From Vivek_Satpute at symantec.com Thu Apr 17 04:05:40 2014 From: Vivek_Satpute at symantec.com (Vivek Satpute) Date: Thu, 17 Apr 2014 03:05:40 -0700 Subject: [sles-beta] Query regarding SLES12 releasenotes In-Reply-To: <20140417095853.GB16665@linux-w520.guibland.com> References: <20140417095853.GB16665@linux-w520.guibland.com> Message-ID: Thanks a much Antoine :-) Regards, Vivek Satpute On 17/04/14 3:28 PM, "Antoine Ginies" wrote: >Vivek Satpute: >> Hi, >> >> If this is basic or foolish question then please apologies me. >> >> I am going through SLES12 release notes >>https://www.suse.com/releasenotes/x86_64/SUSE-SLES/12/>om/releasenotes/x86_64/SUSE-SLES/12/#TechInfo.KVM> >> And at couple of points I am seeing "CHECKIT:SLE11.3". I've found the ability to get into a few yast modules from that option particularly useful in the past. The original module was written as a diploma thesis, and it's not maintainable. We need to completly re-write it, and the schedule doesnt match the SLE12 one. It is currently not usable on SLE12, so that's why it has been removed. We plan to get it back for SLE12SP1. regards. -- Antoine Ginies Project Manager SUSE France From behlert at suse.com Thu Apr 17 07:20:51 2014 From: behlert at suse.com (Stefan Behlert) Date: Thu, 17 Apr 2014 15:20:51 +0200 Subject: [sles-beta] [ANNOUNCE] SLES 12 Beta5 is available Message-ID: <20140417132051.GZ23995@suse.de> !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !! SUSE CONFIDENTIAL !! SUSE CONFIDENTIAL !! SUSE CONFIDENTIAL !! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dear Beta participants, we are happy to announce the fifth Beta of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12. ISO images are now available for download now. Please go to http://www.novell.com/beta and select "View my beta page". Here you should see all Beta's you are part of. Note that the directory contains the images for the SDK as well as for SLED. We offer 3 DVD ISOs: DVD1 contains the binaries, the second DVD the sources and the third DVD the debuginfo packages. The final product will not contain the debuginfo packages on the media. For installation purposes you just need Media 1 for your architecture. Please verify the md5sum of the ISO using the MD5SUMS file, which can be found in the same directory on the download servers. Known issues: 871178 - No network during upgrade 872012 - Adding Extensions/Modules after registration during installation fails 870625 - No addon dialog without registration 869359 - formatting partition (ext3) got system error code -3006 If you select ext3 filesystem in the expert partitioner, you get an error popup. You can safely click "continue" there, the installation will succeed. In the installed system, you should change in /etc/fstab the entry for the partition from ext2 to ext3, if you want to use ext3-specific features. - several issues with chzdev on s390x - autoyast2 still with some issues - upgrading from SLE 11 SP3 is not working flawlessly, requiring manual interaction With this Beta4 snapshot we have reached several milestones: o Milestone: System test completed. o Start performance and regression tests. o Continue to fix problems found during update, performance or certification tests. For the next Beta-Release we are targeting these actions and milestones: o Milestone: Legal review of SLE12 contents completed. o Continue update, performance and regression tests. o Start first stress and certification tests. I have added a number of attachments and logs to my: SR 10884981671 created 24th March. But it does seem a bit of a one way street as I have not seen a Dicky Bird from SUSE. I would agree Upgrade has got better with Beta4 and Beta5 but it?s still quite a way off base. I have done a few new Installs but that is not what we are after, we would like to make sure our own SLE 11-SP3 and that of our customers Upgrade without *ANY* issues. I did try a zLinux and did not get as far as one does with x86_64. All the issues are rep_ro and it seems this path is not being very well trodden.
