E.g. yast2-branding-SLES got renamed to yast2-branding-SLE as it is used by several products, thus reducing the amount of confusion possible. As we had no RC1 but a Beta10, the changes were more than I liked, but better then than in the RC phase... For the next milestone, I expect a few changes due to the 'ruby-version-versioning' of the rubygems (means, we make it now clear in the dependency and package names which ruby-version is required for a rubygem, not leaving it to guesswork by admins). You will also see some packages that get moved out of modules to SLES core, mostly in the python-area. After RC1 is released, the changes in the package lists should be close to zero. Targetted is of course zero, but I cannot exclude the probability ;) Stefan -- Stefan Behlert, SUSE LINUX Project Manager Enterprise Server Maxfeldstr. 5, D-90409 Nuernberg, Germany Phone +49-911-74053-173 SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, Nuernberg; GF: Jeff Hawn, Jennifer Guild, Felix Imendoerffer, HRB 16746 (AG Nuernberg) From nmunoz at suse.com Mon Jul 28 08:32:13 2014 From: nmunoz at suse.com (Nefi Munoz) Date: Mon, 28 Jul 2014 08:32:13 -0600 Subject: [sles-beta] Question UEFI Boot Update In-Reply-To: <10906504.9rLhCgaS1g@gjn.priv.at> References: <10906504.9rLhCgaS1g@gjn.priv.at> Message-ID: <53D60A8D020000C80013FC00@prv-mh.provo.novell.com> Hi, If I understood correctly, you lost SLES 12 UEFI boot entry in BIOS. If that's the case there should be a way in your BIOS to re-create SLES 12 boot entry without re-installing OS. On IBM firmware you would do: 1. Power on the system, and, press F1 to enter setup. 2. Select Boot Manager. 3. Select Add Boot Option. 4. Browse all the way down to entry which includes string "*.efi" In SLES 12 it'd be grubx64.efi. (e.g. No Volume Label -> efi -> SuSE -> grubx64.efi) 5. May want to change boot order to set SLES 12 at the top of the list. I have given the problem to a couple of our lady work students to think "out of the box" over the weekend with an evening of free Germany beer for a working answer. I do have some thoughts myself as to why the Update fails and a quick and dirty this afternoon will made my Friday evening chat and beer with friends ( Stammtisch) better than I felt this morning. We do also run zLinux, it's more the bread and butter platform, and I use the x86_64 Linux to check the APPs without running up to much in IFL / CPU costs. SUSE CONFIDENTIAL !! SUSE CONFIDENTIAL !! SUSE CONFIDENTIAL !! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dear Beta participants, we are happy to announce RC 1 release of SUSE Linux Enterprise Workstation Extension 12 (this is the new name of the previously named SLED Extension) SLE Workstation Extension is providing additional packages for SLES, which were only available on SLED before. ISO images will be available for download in a few hours (CDN is syncing). Please go to http://www.novell.com/beta and select "View my beta page". Here you should see all Beta's you are part of. We offer 2 DVD ISOs: DVD1 contains the binaries, the second DVD the sources and debuginfo packages. The final product will not contain the debuginfo packages on the media. To use this extension (together with SLES 12 RC1), you can either: - select the extension during installation, after registration through SCC or - choose "use add-ons from media" during installation to select the Add-on ISO image. Highlights: - Many bug fixes in the entire distribution Known problems: - Evolution doesn't detect Kmail data folder to allow import email import (bnc#888256) Happy testing! SUSE CONFIDENTIAL !! SUSE CONFIDENTIAL !! SUSE CONFIDENTIAL !! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dear Beta participants, we are happy to announce the first RC of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12. ISO images are now available for download now. Please go to http://www.novell.com/beta and select "View my beta page". Here you should see all Beta's you are part of. Note that the directory contains the images for the SDK as well as for the SLED Extension. We offer 3 DVD ISOs: DVD1 contains the binaries, the second DVD the sources and the third DVD the debuginfo packages. The final product will not contain the debuginfo packages on the media. For installation purposes you just need Media 1 for your architecture. Please verify the md5sum of the ISO using the MD5SUMS file, which can be found in the same directory on the download servers. Known issues (selection): * registration might fail if ip address obtained by DHCP doesn't have an associated hostname [bnc#889869]. As a workaround, assign a hostname manually using installer network configuration. * s390x: when upgrading from SLE11SP3 using ctc, network route is not written properly [bnc#889801] Note that if you register the system, you will receive updates. With this snapshot we have reached several milestones: o Milestone: All certification tests completed. o Milestone: Update and performance tests completed. o Milestone: All documentation available (english only). o Milestone: All security updates integrated. o Milestone: Only critical or blocker bugfixes allowed. o Release notes entries for all features have been written o Official ISV/IHV (re-)certification/validation starts. o Official partner acceptance starts. o Fix critical and blocker bugs. o Milestone: Freeze cryptographic packages. o Apply for crypto export (ECR). o Track and report any further crypto changes. For the next Release we are targeting these actions and milestones: o Milestone: Only blocker bugfixes allowed. o Milestone: All translations available. o Official ISV/IHV (re-)certification/validation continues. o Official partner acceptance continues. o Only showstopper and security bugfixes get integrated. o Run final stress, certification, performance, update and regression tests. o Fix blocker bugs. Be aware that we have provided snapshots of three 'modules' at the download page with RC 1: Module "Legacy": The Legacy Module supports your migration from SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 and 11 and other systems to SUSE Linux Enterprise 12, by providing packages which are discontinued on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, but which you may rely on, such as: CyrusIMAP, BSD like ftp client, sendmail, IBM Java6. Access to the Legacy Module is included in your SUSE Linux Enterprise Server subscription. The module has a different lifecycle than SUSE Linux Enterprise Server itself; please check the Release Notes for further details. Module "Web & Scripting": The SUSE Linux Enterprise Web and Scripting Module delivers a comprehensive suite of scripting languages, frameworks, and related tools helping developers and systems administrators accelerate the creation of stable, modern web applications. Access to the Web and Scripting Module is included in your SUSE Linux Enterprise Server subscription. The module has a different lifecycle than SUSE Linux Enterprise Server itself; please check the Release Notes for further details. Module "Advanced System Management": This Module gives you a sneak-peak into our upcoming systems management toolbox which allows you to inspect systems remotely, store their system description and create new systems to deploy them in datacenters and clouds. The toolbox is still in active development and will get regular updates. Note that these are provided "as is" and not all packages that will go into them are already contained in them. We recommend to use them through the repositories available online after registration. This has been Okay for a number of years but with SLE11 to SLE12 it's giving issues. Again many thanks for the input, and have a very good weekend. __R ___________________________________________ Dick Waite Senior R&D Consultant Phone: +49 6151 92-1505 Mobile: +49 171 8393 769 Software AG Uhlandstr. 12 | 64297 Darmstadt | Germany www.softwareag.com ___________________________________________ From Dick.Waite at softwareag.com Fri Aug 1 22:52:42 2014 From: Dick.Waite at softwareag.com (Waite, Dick) Date: Sat, 2 Aug 2014 04:52:42 +0000 Subject: [sles-beta] Windows - Stand-alone Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 In-Reply-To: <31399732.1516.1406930762124.JavaMail.floewe@FDOMWS-FLOEWE> References: <5191455.1484.1406921718136.JavaMail.floewe@FDOMWS-FLOEWE>, <31399732.1516.1406930762124.JavaMail.floewe@FDOMWS-FLOEWE> Message-ID: <20140802045242.5984405.43819.5103@softwareag.com> Many Thanks Frank.
