Dear Beta participants,

due to some important bug fixes in the installer, we had to remaster ISO and
are announcing the release of 

	SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 GMC2.
	       (Goldmaster Candidate 2)

and

	SUSE Linux Enterprise Workstation Extension 12 GMC2.
	       (Goldmaster Candidate 2)

ISO images are now available for download now. Please go to
http://www.novell.com/beta and select "View my beta page".
Here you should see all Beta's you are part of.

Note that the directory contains the images for the SDK as well as for the Workstation Extension.

Known issues:
- bsc#900358 setting password in grub2 bootloader doesn't work when using non-English locale. Workaround: install using English locale
- bsc#900750 "no base product found" when using Autoyast profile creation with rules/rules.xml. Workaround: use full path for autoyast location

We offer 3 DVD ISOs: DVD1 contains the binaries, the second
DVD the sources and the third DVD the debuginfo packages. 
The final product will not contain the debuginfo packages on the media.

For installation purposes you just need Media 1 for your architecture.

Please verify the md5sum of the ISO using the MD5SUMS file, which can
be found in the same directory on the download servers.

we plan to release this update of SMT11-SP3 few days before SLES12 is 
shipped - exactly for the reason which you mentioned in your email.

If you need updated SMT for testing purposes (to test SLES GMC), refer 
to the snapshot announced on this list earlier.

actual Goldmaster.

However, there are no such images available for download.   Only the GMC2
ISO images are available.

When or where are these GMC3/GM images available?

Grand Wet Afternoon Stefan,

Do you have a feeling in your water on when VMware will start their test of SLE12. From GMC2 (Monday 16th) or will they wait until GMC3 on Monday October 27th? Without their "tools" running it is a real pain trying to do work. Your open-vm stuff is missing quite a lot of bits and bobs. Mapping to host directories is missing and that feature is very well used.

Correct. That's why we mentioned how to get to GM state, see below.

Currently the next planned release is the official one on Oct 27th on the official download pages.

As mentioned, you don't need them, you can simply use the GMC2 images and in the package manager update to all new versions (once you have registered).

The biggest issue with open-vm-tools is that SLES/SLED 12 dropped support
for GTK2 and only supports GTK3. Whereas open-vm-tools only supports GTK2
at the present time. So to include open-vm-tools in SLES/SLED, SUSE needed
to disable the desktop integration features, which will mostly be of
interest to users of VMware Fusion and Workstation products. Work around
for this is to uninstall open-vm-tools and install the VMware Tools that
are bundled with VMware Fusion and Workstation products using the perl
script installer. My understanding is that SLES/SLED 12 is targeted for
testing and support by Fusion 7.x/Workstation 11.x or later releases. But
this testing is not complete yet.

For vSphere ESXi users, we're recommending using open-vm-tools that are
distributed by SUSE. For server workloads, the desktop integration
features are generally not required or desired.

Many Thanks for the very good words John. When one can understand why something was done then one can do something about it.

Following your thoughts I took a snapshot of a working SLES12-GMC2 running in a VMware Workstation 10.0.3 enviroment and then asked yast to uninstall open-vm-tools and the libvm. I had saved VMware Tools-9.6.2-1688356.tar.gz in /tmp/Tools sometime back and the vmware-tools-distrib.  Moved to that folder and gave "vmware-reinstall.pl" a run and that went very well indeed, used the new sles12 to build and create the new environment. It looked good to shutdown and enable the "shared folders" options. I gave it one read-only and one to write to.
Run a re-ipl and up it came, running VMware Tools and shared folders in SLE12-GMC2, working as well as with SLE11.

A very happy chappy... I'll convert a few more VMware Workstation machines but have to say, Many Thanks indeed John, it's looking good.

The biggest issue with open-vm-tools is that SLES/SLED 12 dropped support
for GTK2 and only supports GTK3. Whereas open-vm-tools only supports GTK2
at the present time. So to include open-vm-tools in SLES/SLED, SUSE needed
to disable the desktop integration features, which will mostly be of
interest to users of VMware Fusion and Workstation products. Work around
for this is to uninstall open-vm-tools and install the VMware Tools that
are bundled with VMware Fusion and Workstation products using the perl
script installer. My understanding is that SLES/SLED 12 is targeted for
testing and support by Fusion 7.x/Workstation 11.x or later releases. But
this testing is not complete yet.

For vSphere ESXi users, we're recommending using open-vm-tools that are
distributed by SUSE. For server workloads, the desktop integration
features are generally not required or desired.
