SUSE CONFIDENTIAL !! SUSE CONFIDENTIAL !! SUSE CONFIDENTIAL !! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dear Beta participants, we are happy to announce the third Beta of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP4. ISO images are now available for download now. Please go to http://www.novell.com/beta and select "View my beta page". Here you should see all Beta's you are part of. Note that the directory contains the images for the SDK as well as for SLES. We offer 3 DVD ISOs: DVD1 contains the binaries, the second DVD the sources and the third DVD the debuginfo packages. The final product will not contain the debuginfo packages on the media. For installation purposes you just need media 1 for your architecture. Please verify the md5sum of the ISO using the MD5SUMS file, which can be found in the same directory on the download servers. With this Beta snapshot we have reached several milestones: o Milestone: All SLE11-SP4 features have been functionally tested. o Milestone: All new/updated device drivers have been tested. o Continue update, performance and regression tests. o Continue system test. o Start first stress and certification tests. For the next Beta-Release we are targetting these actions and milestones: o Milestone: All features are verified to work. o Milestone: All updated device drivers are verified and proven to be stable o Milestone: Legal review of SLE11-SP4 contents completed. o Milestone: System test completed. o Fix problems found during update, performance or certification tests. o Integrate additional security updates. o Continue update, performance and regression tests. o Continue intense stress and certification tests. Hello,

Installed SLES11-SP4 Beta2 on my HP Proliant Server. Turned off firewall and screensaver. Connected to TC and configured networking well.
When installing Certification SCK7.3GM2 in system, it would hang at the same place always (Please refer to the attachment).
Installing SCK7.2GM would have NO this problem.

We are downloading SLES11-SP4 Beta3 and would verify this.

Thanks,

Zack.

Issue with forced installation of open-vm-tools got resolved Please do not misunderstand. I am not against open-vm-tools. But having an entire platform already installed and running ESXi VMwareTools it is not possible, to remove VMWareTools when doing service pack update. This would be a too deep change which would have to be tested with all specific applications first. There is simply no time free to do so. So having a service pack update which does not bring much "visible" changes, this is much easier to implement and getting accepted by production staff. Leaving the option to choose open-vm-tools for new installations, gives me the freedom to carefully evaluate and introduce to operations staff. I'm glad to hear the new version is matching your expectations. I think there are valid points on both sides of this discussion, but not automatically installing open-vm-tools is definitely the safest approach - and consistent with our original intentions for SP4. Message-ID: <5512C56F.3070205@oce.com> Hi, just installed SP on several machines and did a (quick) test of server components like samba or ftp of nfs. Right now with Beta 3: - Installation works fine, also over network and autoinstallation - Autoinstallation does not show the licence windows of the IPA fonts to accept (I opened a SR already) - Simple configurations of NTP, Samba, NFS and FTP, SSH with YaST succeeded - Network troughput on GBit LAN is max possible I got an issue with Infiniband kernel driver modules (I installed the openibd package) which complain on wrong kernel version. I reinstalled this server, but need to get an supportconfig to open an SR on this. Or is this issue already known/reported? So looks fine as for now as for the server side :) Thanks for the good work!!! When doing Kernel Updates with ESXi VMwareTools there is need to re-compile the VMware Kernel Modules after Kernel Patch Update This is why I have this code in my /etc/init.d/boot.local. Observe the Boolean file ".vmware_installed" in the kernel path # Automatically recompile vmware-tools/modules at bootup if [ ! -e /lib/modules/`uname -r`/kernel/.vmware_installed ]; then [ -x /usr/bin/vmware-config-tools.pl ] && /usr/bin/vmware-config-tools.pl --default [ -x /usr/bin/vmware-config.pl ] && /usr/bin/vmware-config.pl --default touch /lib/modules/`uname -r`/kernel/.vmware_installed fi =============== Of course there is an advantage when using the open-vm-tools: you do not have to care again on reconfiguring vm-tools, because it is all delivered in the new kernel best regards Urs Frey????????????????????????????????????????????? However, I have been looking more closely at the open-vm-tools side, instead of VMware Tools. Perhaps someone else on the list using VMware Tools can report whether or not a reconfiguration was required for them as well?
