> Why is smartd enabled by default?

I checked and the default haven't changed :

both SP3 and SP4 smartd initscript contains :
# Default-Start: 2 3 5
# X-UnitedLinux-Default-Enabled: yes

Which means smartd is expected to be enabled to runlevel 2 / 3 and 5 by
default in both SP3 and SP4.

> Why this change in a GMC?

There was no change in smartmontctl for 2 months (and the last relevant
changes was 3 months ago, with the version update of smartmontools from
6.0 to 6.3).
