From VMoutoussamy at suse.com Thu Aug 6 06:20:50 2015 From: VMoutoussamy at suse.com (Vincent Moutoussamy) Date: Thu, 6 Aug 2015 12:20:50 +0000 Subject: [sles-beta] Welcome to the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 SP1 Beta Mailing List Message-ID: Dear customers, partners and SUSE employees, Welcome to the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 SP1 Beta Mailing List. Please note that this is just a welcome email! You will receive informations about the Beta Program through this Mailing List (planned releases, how to download the Beta, how to open issues, etc) in the coming days. Kind regards, Your SUSE Linux Enterprise team -- Vincent Moutoussamy SUSE Beta Program and SDK Project Manager From behlert at suse.com Thu Aug 6 09:06:24 2015 From: behlert at suse.com (Stefan Behlert) Date: Thu, 6 Aug 2015 17:06:24 +0200 Subject: [sles-beta] Beta 1 release on Friday Message-ID: <20150806150624.GH21390@suse.de> Hi all, We know you are eagerly waiting for more information, and - especially - the first iso-images for this Beta. In the schedule you will see soon on this list you may notice that the planed release date for a beta milestone is normally a Thursday. We kindly ask you to treat this as a _planned_ date. Depending on the timezone you are in, and the bugs found by our QA, the release could be on Thursday or Friday. For Beta1, the release is currently expected this Friday, as QA found in the Acceptance tests an issue that we rather wanted to get fixed than have Beta1 released this Thursday. "What's he meaning with Acceptance tests?" you may ask. Let me give you a litle bit of insight into the creation of a milestone. If you are not interested in these details, you can stop reading now, as it gets lengthy but has no vitally important information for the Beta program ;) For each of the products of this Beta program, we build nearly daily images (sometimes more than one;)) and test them through some automated tests. When the time of a Beta release approaches, one of these image builds will be declared a 'Beta-candidate' and gets distributed to our internal QA. The QA experts are then doing the real, serious, tough acceptance tests. If those reveal no serious problems, the build will be the next Beta. If serious problems are found, we decide either if we can solve them with an update or if we need a new Build. The latter costs quite some time (we have to wait for the fix to be created, the package to be build, everything tested...). The first alternative is faster, of course, but less convenient for everyone installing the Beta. After the build is renamed to 'Beta X', announcements are send to various mailing lists, and the isos are uploaded to the download area. Soon you have then the isos, and can do your testing. Thanks for reading this small piece of "Inside-SUSE". ciao, Stefan -- Stefan Behlert, SUSE LINUX Release Manager Enterprise Server Maxfeldstr. 5, D-90409 Nuernberg, Germany Phone +49-911-74053-173 SUSE LINUX GmbH, Nuernberg; GF: Felix Imendoerffer, Jane Smithard, Dilip Upmanyu, Graham Norton, HRB 21284 (AG Nuernberg) From behlert at suse.com Fri Aug 7 07:36:03 2015 From: behlert at suse.com (Stefan Behlert) Date: Fri, 7 Aug 2015 15:36:03 +0200 Subject: [sles-beta] [ANNOUNCE] SLES 12 SP1 Beta1 is available Message-ID: <20150807133603.GH21390@suse.de> !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !! Dear Beta participants, we are happy to announce the first Beta of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 SP1. ISO images are now available for download now. Please go to http://www.novell.com/beta and select "View my beta page". Here you should see all Beta's you are part of. Note that the directory contains the images for the SDK as well as for SLED. We offer 3 DVD ISOs: DVD1 contains the binaries, the second DVD the sources and the third DVD the debuginfo packages. The final product will not contain the debuginfo packages on the media. For installation purposes you just need Media 1 for your architecture. Please verify the sha256sum of the ISO using the SHA256SUMS file, which can be found in the same directory on the download servers. Docker is a very "fast moving target", and thus we decided to put it in its own module, the "Containers Module". For all of you to remember what Containers are: ------------------------< snip >------------------------ Components of SUSE Linux Enterprise * Flexible lifecylce (different from the base product) * Delivered on-line * Fully supported * Included in the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server subscription ? no extra cost ------------------------< snap >------------------------ Short presentation attached.
