In general, anything that's available from the UI should be available from the API. If you find something, please report a bug. That being said, we are aware of some missing API calls missing and the only reason we have no implemented them yet is nobody has ever requested them; but we will treat them as a bug and fix them when they are requested.

Same for traditional vs Salt. If you find something that's available on traditional clients and not on Salt clients, please report a bug. We keep working to close the gap.


Now the Ubuntu autoinstallation.

Objective: Installation of a minimal Ubuntu machine from the scratch


  1.  Take the iso from http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/bionic-updates/main/installer-amd64/current/images/netboot/mini.iso
  2.  Put this into a computer and boot from this
  3.  Follow the menues
  4.  When the installation ask about a installation mirror fill in the name of your SUSE Manager
  5.  When the installation is finished register the machine via bootstrap script at SUSE Manager

All this task could be done by a preseed-file https://wiki.debian.org/DebianInstaller/Preseed

Issues:

  1.  Suse manage is not able to act as unauthenticated ubuntu/Debian mirror (apt-cacher-ng)

That's right. That works for AutoYaST and Kickstart because there you can use a very special URL but it will no work for preseed.

Have you tried using Kickstart for Ubuntu?
