On Beta3 Packages Media, there is a new prefix "SLE-15-SP1-? in the name of each folders. And these new names can cause some autoyast failure thus require to adapt the autoyast configuration. After mounting the SLE15-SP1 beta3 Packages Media: > SLE-15-SP1-Module-Basesystem > SLE-15-SP1-Module-Public-Cloud > SLE-15-SP1-Product-HPC > ... After mounting the SLE15-GA Packages Media: > Module-Basesystem > Module-HPC > Module-Server-Applications > ... Unfortunately we saw this too late for Beta 3, and we will soon confirm the rollback to the former name. But in the meantime: 1) It?s only affecting the Packages Media, not the Online Channels. So we highly recommend to use the Online Channels for your tests instead of the Packages Media. Check out https://www.suse.com/betaprogram/sle-beta/#faq-reg . 2) If you really can?t use the Online Channels, you have to adapt your autoyast profile and be aware that we might revert to the old name in the future. We are deeply sorry for this last minute known issue. Keep in mind that we are always looking for feedback on how you install SLE15 GA in production or SLE15SP1 Beta in your lab environment, therefore interested by any difficulty you may face or any inputs that can help us improve and create a better product. You can either share your thoughts with everyone in the SLE Beta community at sle-beta at lists.suse.com or privately with SUSE ONLY at beta-programs at lists.suse.com Sorry for the inconvenience and we still hope you can have fun with beta testing. For local system/network configuration, it's too fat, slow and has too many unwanted side effects and design problems. We tried that for MicroOS and abonded the idea of using cloud-init for this. On our openSUSE variants we are currently in the process of removing it everywhere (except public cloud) again. There are much more promising projects which are better suited like ignition, which is small, fast and has no unwanted side effects if a service has no user configuration. > if it come true, how SLE desktop without cloud-init handle the > system/network configuration? The public cloud module is for the Public Cloud, our SLE desktop is clearly not a good usecase for a Public Cloud. That's why the Public Cloud Module is only available and supported with SLES, not SLED. And for network configuration, we have yast, autoyast, salt, ... So in the end we are not slipping our schedule, just replacing one RC by one Beta. At the end of the day, they both use the same (lower layers of the) update stack and the same snapshotting mechanism. > I have a feeling if I used yast say for a Beta2 or 3 update and then use > zypper for Beta4 poor zypper seems to have a very bad hair day. If it is really related to changing the tools, which I would be surprised, then it is obviously a bug. However, the result of the migration should be the same no matter whether you use 'zypper migration' or 'yast migration'. Both zypper and YaST migrations should be equal. They should use the same package sets and the same dependency solver so the result should be the same. I have reset to the > base snapshot and done the --rollback but could it be there is something odd if > you switch willie nillie between yast and zypper on migration ? Could you please be more verbose? YaST is a swiss army knife, there is not the one method to update a system, but at minimum three. Same for zypper, there are three ways to update a system. So saying you are using YaST or zypper is pretty useless. Another thing: Updating from Beta2 to Beta3 with YaST and Beta3 to Beta4 with zypper, while you have afterwards problems with Beta4, is pretty meaningless. This does not need to be a bug in YaST nor zypper, this could also be a bug in a package. It's only a bug in YaST or zypper, if updating the exact same system once with YaST to Beta4 and once with zypper, and the result is different. Important is, the start system needs to be exactly the same, and the update method needs to be the same. Everything else means, that the results will not be identical or compareable, too. Important to know is: 1. From which version to which version did you update with YaST? 2. How did you update with YaST? 3. From which version to which version did you update with zypper? 4. What is the exact commandline you used for this? Do you mind creating a bugreport for that one ? SUSE Package Hub 15 is listed as a product in bugzilla, so you will find it by choosing "SUSE Linux Enterprise Server" as the primary product and then "SUSE Package Hub 15" shows up as a product. > - Is there any way to update syslog-ng in Package Hub from 3.14 to > 3.19? Apart from bugfixes it also has many interesting new features, > like if/then/else syntax and lightning fast Elasticsearch / Splunk > HEC support. Currently we are constantly syncing packages from Leap 15.1 to Package Hub 15 for SLE-15-SP1 and syslog-ng 3.19 is already there. However, it looks like it hasn't been synced to the CDN yet to become available to you. The other option is to directly add openSUSE:Backports:SLE-15-SP1 from OBS in order to install and test the current state of packages. Please note that using the repo directly, you loose access to the Package Hub sub packages repo which comes with the Package Hub extension when enabling in SCC (e.g. via SUSEConnect).
