Yes while having a look in /usr/lib/system/system I could find a  vmtoolsd service
And as you already noted below, when enabling and starting it, on my V-sphere console I could see "? third party provider"

I see quite a challenge in providing vmware kernel modules on SLES and keeping the V-sphere console display on "supported, actual version"
- Not everybody does run the same ESXi version
- Not everybody has the same update cycle of the ESXi versions
- How to synchronize ESXi version cycles with SLES kernel update cycles

Just a few thoughts of mine
I know SUSE ISV and SUSE engineering are a very powerful organizations;-  you will find a way

o Added open-vm-tools (feature)	[x86_64]

It isn't marked supported yet. We're are working with VMware to be able
to mark it fully supported to deliver a one stop support.

Same way you should find the VMware drivers.
