I suggest you review the "Advanced Systems Management"
presentation given to the beta group by my colleague
Andreas Jaeger some weeks ago. 

Th "machinery" framework approaches the topic of
reproducible installations much broader than what
Lennart seems to have in mind (I scanned over the blog
meanwhile).
