[sles-beta] Odd happenings in the register with RC2 to RC3 update

Grand Saturday Afternoon Thorsten,

It's quite interesting.

rjw02-12-1-4 lives on IPv4 192.168.2.124

When using RC2 (version 0.2.24) of SUSEConnect with -r thekey -e name at sag --url https://scc.suse.com you can register and as you say one is given a node name, as shown on the attached png's

You then power off and switch to point to RC3 .iso. IPL and set for Update...

The update potters along and then it tries to access the local registry, not found, then goes home to mum (scc.suse.com) and you get a message, something like:
"updating to RC3"
this runs for a bit and when done, one has a look at the browser, the node name has gone and we have an IP 192.168.2.124 which is the IP of Node rjw02-12-1-4.

If you look at the version of SUSEConnect on RC3 it's 0.2.27 so there has been changes. So it seems the issue is in the RC2 to RC3 update when it calls home to mum. The system does show the same hostname at RC2 and RC3.

So I'll run some --de-registers of the IP's and register again with the nodes. I expect the two extra modules I need would have been lost / kept, whatever it's soon fixed.

I'm sure at GMC update time this little quirk will be well booted into touch and are node will hang on in there.

Wishing you a grand Halloween.

__R

I spoke with our SCC developers, there was no change.
When the system at the moment of registration has a hostname set, this
gets send to SCC. Else we fall back to the ipv4 address.

When and how are you doing the registration?
And if you do it today again with RC2, you still see node names?
